Brazilian Bar Association and Stanford University launch research on Artificial Intelligence in the legal profession.

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB Nacional), in partnership with Stanford University, through the Deliberative Democracy Lab, and the Brazilian Institute for Teaching, Development and Research (IDP), is launching a research project to understand the impacts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the practice of law.

This initiative is part of the National Plan for the Integration of Artificial Intelligence in the Legal Profession (PNIAA) and will contribute to the development of guidelines for the ethical, safe, and responsible use of technology in the profession.

The research will utilize an internationally recognized scientific methodology to survey lawyers from all regions of the country. The objective is to gather information on the use of AI in law, its challenges, opportunities, and perspectives, contributing to the formulation of institutional policies aimed at the digital transformation of the profession.

The results will serve as a basis for strategic actions by the PNIAA, focusing on strengthening institutional governance, innovation, and the development of guidelines that reconcile technological advancement with the defense of prerogatives, professional ethics, and legal certainty.

Methodology

The research will be conducted through an electronic questionnaire sent to Brazilian lawyers. In a second phase, some participants will be invited to take part in a national online deliberation promoted in partnership with Stanford University.

During this phase, participants will discuss topics related to the use of Artificial Intelligence in law with national and international experts, using the methodology developed by the Deliberative Democracy Lab.

The lawyers selected for this stage will receive an international certificate issued by Stanford University.

Participation

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) invites all Brazilian lawyers to participate in the initiative. Professionals should check the email address registered with the Association to answer the initial questionnaire and may subsequently be invited to participate in other stages of the research.

Participation will contribute to the development of guidelines that will guide the use of Artificial Intelligence in Brazilian law, reinforcing the OAB's commitment to a digital transformation based on ethics, legal certainty, the appreciation of the legal profession, and the defense of professional prerogatives.
