Chapter 117 - In the Family
“Let them learn first to exercise piety toward their own family and to recompense their parents, because this is good and acceptable before God.” — Paul. ([1 TIMOTHY, 5:4])
1 The struggle within the family is a fundamental problem of man’s redemption on Earth.
2 How shall we be benefactors of a hundred or a thousand people if we have not yet learned to serve five or ten creatures? This is a logical inquiry that extends to all sincere disciples of Christianity.
3 A good preacher and a bad servant are two titles that do not agree with each other.
4 The apostle advises the exercise of piety at the center of domestic activities; however, he does not allude to the piety that weeps without courage before distressing enigmas, but to that which knows the neuralgic zones of the home and strives to eliminate them, awaiting the divine decision in its own time.
5 We know numerous brothers who feel spiritually alone among those who have been added to their personal circle through bonds of blood, surrendering themselves, for this reason, to lamentable discouragement.
6 It is indispensable, however, to examine the transitoriness of bodily ties, considering that there are no casual unions in the earthly home. For now, saving or regenerative trials prevail there.

4 O apóstolo aconselha o ex6ercício da piedade no centro das atividades domésticas, entretanto, não alude à piedade que chora sem coragem ante os enigmas aflitivos, mas àquela que conhece as zonas nevrálgicas da casa e se esforça por eliminá-las, aguardando a decisão divina a seu tempo.
5 Conhecemos numerosos irmãos que se sentem sozinhos, espiritualmente, entre os que se lhes agregaram ao círculo pessoal, através dos laços consanguíneos, entregando-se, por isso, a lamentável desânimo.
6 É imprescindível, contudo, examinar a transitoriedade das ligações corpóreas, ponderando que não existem uniões casuais no lar terreno. Preponderam aí, por enquanto, as provas salvadoras ou regenerativas.
